This Pride Month, I speak not just as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, but as someone who’s fought for justice in our state as the former Democratic nominee for Georgia House District 23, and as the former Chairman of the Cherokee Family Violence Center.
Pride is a celebration of who we are, of how far we’ve come, and of the power we hold when we stand together. But it’s also a time to reflect, because the fight isn’t over.
Across the country, LGBTQ+ rights are under attack. Trans youth are being targeted by cruel legislation. Our families are being politicized. And too many in our community still live with fear instead of freedom.
We cannot ignore these realities. Pride means refusing to be silent. It means honoring those who came before us, and doing the work to make sure the next generation doesn’t have to fight the same battles.
To every LGBTQ+ person reading this: you matter. You are loved. And you deserve to live fully, safely, and with pride, not just in June, but every day of the year.
This month, we celebrate. But we also organize, uplift, and recommit ourselves to the work ahead. I’m proud to stand with you, alongside you, and when you need me to, in front of you – today and every day.
With love and resolve,
Adam
